Fourteen days on eight millimetres of grass
28 June – 11 July 2027
Day one · Monday 28 June
Cut to 8 mm, every day
During the Championships the courts are mown to 8 mm and the lines are marked out again every day. The grass is 100 per cent perennial ryegrass, used since 2001 because it stands up to the wear of the modern game.
The middle Sunday · 4 July
They count the grass
Ground staff track wear in eight positions behind the baselines and below the T. On each of the three main show courts, 100 points in each position are logged as live grass, dead grass or bare ground — 31,200 baseline checks and 1,822 ball-bounce checks in 2023.
1877 – 2027
150 years
The first Championships were played in 1877. The 2027 tournament marks 150 years since then, and is reported as the 140th Championships once the years lost to the two World Wars and 2020 are taken out.
The last weekend · 10 – 11 July
Bare at the baseline
By the finals the grass behind each baseline is worn to earth. In 2026 Jannik Sinner beat Alexander Zverev in four sets to keep the gentlemen's title, and Linda Nosková beat Karolína Muchová in an all-Czech ladies' final. Each singles champion received £3.6 million.
In 2027 the ladies' final falls on Saturday 10 July and the gentlemen's on Sunday 11 July.
