Arthur Ashe Stadium · Flushing Meadows, New York
US Open
29 August – 12 September 2027 · the night session
The surface
Blue inside the lines
Blue within the lines and green outside since 2005, so the yellow ball stands out; before that the whole court was green. Hard courts since the move to Flushing Meadows in 1978, a Laykold surface since 2020.
Under the lights
Day, then night
Every court is lit, so play runs late. In 2026 a full Ashe series covered 27 sessions: 14 days and 13 evenings. On the opening Sunday of 2027 the sun sets over Queens at about 7.33 pm.
The roof
Seven minutes
Ashe opened in 1997 and seats about 23,700, the largest tennis stadium in the world. Its roof, added in 2016, stands on its own structure: two fabric panels close across a 250-foot opening in about seven minutes.
Getting there
Mets–Willets Point
By the 7 train or the LIRR, then the boardwalk to the gate.
