Shanghai International Circuit · Shanghai
Chinese
Grand Prix
16–18 April 2027 · Round 5 of 24
The circuit · Jiading
Drawn as 上
The track is laid out in the shape of 上, shang, the first character of Shanghai’s name, meaning “above”. It was designed by Hermann Tilke and has held the Chinese Grand Prix since 2004.
56 laps of 5.451 km, about 305 km. First Grand Prix here: 2004.
Over the track
Two wings across the circuit
The main grandstand seats 30,000. At either end of it and the pits, wing-like viewing platforms cross the circuit, and the teams’ buildings stand in a lake, laid out like the Yu Garden.
The track and the buildings are drawn from OpenStreetMap; the wings and the pavilions on screen are drawn freely from the general form.
The longest straight
1.2 km to the hairpin
Between turns 13 and 14 runs the circuit’s longest straight, 1.2 km, into a tight hairpin. The race is on Sunday 18 April; it is not a Sprint weekend.
